Part Time Bartender

Hi my name is Matthew, and I come from Portlaoise, I’ve been working here part time as I’m attending College here in Limerick. I work the evening and night shift and I love it, it’s very busy. Working in the hospitality industry gives you the opportunity to grow in confidence, you get to meet all types of people, all ages, backgrounds and nationalities you learn quickly.

What’s the training like?

I have worked in other bars but was never given the onboarding training that I experienced here in The Old Quarter. The in-house training is also excellent, I’ve learned how to make various syrups and show how to create the cocktails these syrups are used in. The in-house training also included wine tastings, beer, and spirit courses.

What’s makes working in The Old Quarter great?

It comes down to one thing for me, it’s great to see the owners and managers pulling up their sleeves and getting stuck in, when things get busy the shelves have to be stacked, glasses polished and customers need serving and they work along side you.
